The Ever Reliable Camping Coffee Pot
Few years back, me and my wife were working for a charter school that follows the traditional 8 to 5 office hours and we need to be there half an hour before and after. Spending 10-hour on the job is more than enough in making it seem to be a stress and challenge to be on; not to mention the obstinate teens, administrator politics and take-home assignments. If I’m not prepared with my camping coffee pot, I probably have ulcer by this time.
This is also the same reason why when I was laid off, I felt to celebrate the freedom I have than having to mourn on the loss of job. The truth is, my wife followed my footsteps several months later and turned her resignation letter. Once we’re free from this near cruel act of 50-hour work week, we realized how big of our lives that have been sapped away. There were people as well as close friends whom we hadn’t get to spend time with for years despite the fact that we were only living on the same part of town.
We have made a decision to start our own business which will give us freedom to spend time the way we want, take vacations, spend time with friends, use our camping coffee pot once again and so on. Right from this moment, we had started to brainstorm ideas on a new business.
There’s a significant difference when you are working for yourself and for someone else which is the fact that if it’s you’re working for yourself, you’ve got to work twice as hard. If you’re just starting out in your business, you will feel the gravity of challenges you have to face. On the first couple of months of doing the business, our workload extends to 12-hours a day and sometimes, it stretch more than that. Luckily we had our camping coffee pot giving us the energy boost on times that our body is nearly giving up. If we are not working at the shop, you will see us working in our laptops and trying to reach out to vendors, make class schedule and also, spread the word out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media sites.
And before long, we noticed all of a sudden that we are almost working for 3 years straight without giving the break that our mentally and physically abused body has taken. Back then, we used to take road trips every year but these days, we consider ourselves lucky to drive a couple of hours to visit our family. Once, we were avid campers equipped with state-of-the-art camp stoves and camping coffee pot. On our available time, work seems to haunt us; a consequence of not putting up boundaries between work and personal time. That is exactly when we made actions to rectify it while we are using camping coffee pot.
